「modus operandi（モーダス・オペランディ）」はラテン語に由来する表現で、直訳すると「行動の方法」や「やり方」を意味します。英語ではしばしば略して M.O. と表記され、「その人特有のやり方」「いつもの手口」といったニュアンスで使われます。
